The British Pacific Properties is an upscale residential area in West Vancouver located above the Upper Levels Highway. The land was purchased by A.R. Guinness-British Pacific Properties in 1932 and developed as the British Properties. 1,600 acres were purchased at a cost of $50 per acre. The British Properties helped finance the development and construction of the Lions Gate Bridge which opened in 1938. Today, the average single family house is built for in excess of $4,000,000, and it is home to some of Vancouver's most affluent families.
The British Properties is built on the side of Hollyburn Mountain and has great views of the Burrard Inlet, the City of Vancouver, and the Strait of Georgia. On a clear day, you can see as far as the United States and Vancouver Island. Houses in the British Properties are strategically located on the bluffs and ridges that are a part of the natural landscape of the area. Each home is unique, and carefully designed to fit on the lot. Most homes have been built to maximize the incredible views offered in this mountainside setting. The lot sizes are generally very large in the British Properties ensuring great privacy. Due to the large lot sizes, many homes are built in excess of 6000 sq ft in size. Almost all of the homes in the British Properties are single family dwellings, many of which would be classified as “mansions.” The British Properties has excellent proximity to Vancouver via the Lion's Gate Bridge.
