The British Pacific Properties is an upscale residential area in West Vancouver located above the Upper Levels Highway. The land was purchased by A.R. Guinness-British Pacific Properties in 1932 and developed as the British Properties. 1,600 acres were purchased at a cost of $50 per acre. The British Properties helped finance the development and construction of the Lions Gate Bridge which opened in 1938. Today, the average single family house is built for in excess of $4,000,000, and it is home to some of Vancouver's most affluent families.

The British Properties is built on the side of Hollyburn Mountain and has great views of the Burrard Inlet, the City of Vancouver, and the Strait of Georgia. On a clear day, you can see as far as the United States and Vancouver Island. Houses in the British Properties are strategically located on the bluffs and ridges that are a part of the natural landscape of the area. Each home is unique, and carefully designed to fit on the lot. Most homes have been built to maximize the incredible views offered in this mountainside setting. Parks and Recreation

There are a number of parks and ravine areas througout the British Properties, including Ballantree Park at the top of the hill, and Capilano Regional Park to the east. The community is home to the prestigious Hollyburn Country Club and the Capilano Golf Club. Skiing, mountain biking, and other recreational activities are accessed up the hill at Cypress Bowl Provincial Park or in neighbouring North Vancouver at Grouse Mountain.

 

Shopping and Services

West Vancouver Community CenterThis area does not have much in the way of 7-11's and the like. Area residents head down the hill via Taylor Way to Park Royal Shopping Centre for their shopping needs. The other option is to head down 15th Street to Ambleside Village.

 

Community and Entertainment

There is a public library in Ambleside. The West Vancouver Community Center, with a pool and ice rink, is at 21st and Marine Drive. Ambleside Park hosts many annual festivals including Community Day, the Harmony Arts Festival, and other seasonal events.

 

Education

The British Properties is served by Westcott Elementary School and Chartwell Elementary School and Sentinel Secondary School. The British Properties is also home to Collingwood, a private school from K-12. Mulgrave is the other private school in West Vancouver.

 

Getting Around

The area is very close to downtown Vancouver. Drive down Taylor Way and you’re on the Lions Gate Bridge in minutes. The British Properties has regular transit service to and from Park Royal Shopping Center.
